Our studio kicked off the summer with an incredible surge of creativity through our highly engaging Fine Art Manga Page Design, Anime Animation, and Digital Anime/Manga Page Design Camps! These programs provided a dynamic and immersive environment for young artists to explore their passion for Japanese art forms, fostering both technical skills and imaginative storytelling.
Fine Art Manga Page Design Camp (1st-6th Grade)
This fun course offered students an in-depth exploration of the complex realm of manga creation, uncovering the detailed process of bringing a story to life from its early stages. Beyond just drawing, students explored the various elements of storytelling, refining their skills to craft engaging narratives and convert them into a lively visual format.

The curriculum started with the essential first step: ideation. Students were motivated to tap into their creativity, generating a diverse range of themes, characters, and plotlines to establish the core concept for their manga. This initial stage promoted critical thinking and imaginative problem-solving, as students tackled the challenge of creating a coherent and engaging story arc.
After the main idea was solidly set, attention turned to the heart of the narrative: dialogue. Students mastered the skill of creating meaningful and genuine conversations that advanced the story and unveiled character traits. They examined how dialogue can express emotions, form relationships, and create tension, appreciating its crucial role in captivating the reader.

Ultimately, their hard work culminated in the creation of the manga pages. The students carefully crafted each page, paying close attention to panel arrangements, character expressions, and environmental details to effectively depict their selected scenes. They learned to blend their artistic vision with their storytelling goals, making sure every line and speech bubble enhanced the overall narrative impact. This practical experience offered invaluable insights into the dedication and artistic expertise needed to transform a simple idea into a full-fledged manga.
Digital Anime/Manga Page Design Camp (3rd-6th Grade)
Building on the foundational principles covered in our Fine Art Manga Page Design camp, the Digital Anime/Manga Page Design camp provided students with a unique chance to bring their artistic visions to life in the digital world. Participants explored the core elements of anime and manga, acquiring a thorough understanding of character development, narrative structure, and visual composition.

A central element of this camp was enabling students to develop their own original stories, from the initial idea to detailed plot outlines. They then learned to carefully design page layouts that enhanced their narratives, ensuring a smooth flow and impactful presentation. The core of the camp was character creation, where students infused their interests and personalities into designing a diverse range of characters, each with unique traits and backstories.
All of this artistic exploration was brought to life through the versatile features of Procreate, a leading digital art application, allowing students to apply their newfound knowledge and interests directly to their digital creations. This camp not only refined their artistic skills but also offered a valuable introduction to the tools and techniques used in contemporary digital illustration.

Anime Animation Camp (7th-8th Grade)
For those interested in the magic of moving images, our Anime Animation camp provided an intriguing exploration into the realm of digital animation. Students acquired practical insights into how animation is digitally created, utilizing the robust animation features in Procreate. The camp was heavily inspired by well-known anime series, enabling students to dissect and grasp the subtleties of animated motion. Through practical exercises, participants diligently learned to animate everyday actions like drinking and walking, focusing on timing, fluidity, and character expression.

These essential skills ultimately led to a more intricate and ambitious project: animating a moving background scene. Whether depicting the lively view from a vehicle or the rhythmic scenery passing by on a train, students mastered the art of crafting dynamic and immersive environments that enhanced their animated characters. This camp offered a foundational grasp of animation principles, fostering creativity and problem-solving within the thrilling realm of digital motion graphics.
