Open Class Events: Fine Art Portfolio Classes for Middle & High School Students

Is your young artist ready to take their work to the next level? Our Open Class Events are designed specifically for students in grades 7–11 who want to build confidence, sharpen their skills, and begin creating a strong fine art portfolio.


These focused studio classes offer hands-on instruction, personalized feedback, and the opportunity to complete high-quality portfolio pieces—all guided by experienced instructors.

Fine Art Portfolio Open Class

Mixed Media Portrait Collage

Grades: 7–11


Dates: Friday, January 30 or Friday, February 6


Time: 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.


Fee: $50 per class

Instructor: Mr. Andy


In this class, students will create a mixed media portrait collage while learning what it takes to produce a polished, portfolio-ready artwork. Each student will also receive a skills assessment or project review from our Portfolio Director, offering valuable insight into their strengths and next steps.



Students will learn:


  • How to plan and execute a high-quality portfolio piece

  • Creative problem-solving using mixed media

  • How to present artwork effectively


Figure Study Open Class
Eye Study in Charcoal

Grades: 7–11

Date: Saturday, January 31


Time: 11:15 p.m. – 12:45 p.m.


Fee: $50

Instructor: Ms. Rupy


This foundational drawing class focuses on creating a realistic eye study using charcoal on gray paper. Ideal for students interested in figure or portrait drawing, this session strengthens observation and drawing discipline.



Skills students will develop:

  • Accurate eye structure and proportion

  • Charcoal shading and value control

  • Observation and visual analysis

  • Hand-eye coordination


Digital Art Portfolio Open Class - 7th-Adults

Human or Animal Portrait

Grades: 7–11


Date: Saturday, February 14

Time: 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Fee: $50

Instructor: Ms. Michaela


This digital art class helps students translate traditional art skills into a digital format while creating a polished portfolio piece. Perfect for students interested in illustration, animation, or design pathways.




Students will explore:

  • Digital drawing and painting techniques

  • Composition and portrait development

  • Building portfolio-ready digital artwork
