Week 1 Recap at Irvine Public Schools Foundation Camp!

The first week at camp was truly a highlight! Our talented 7th–8th graders added energetic brush strokes in the Art Studio Workshops, while our imaginative 4th–6th graders engaged in hands-on creativity in Color Me Clay! Creative Keepsakes. Campers explored their artistic abilities and brought their visions to life. Here’s a recap of all the vibrant moments that launched our summer of art!

An Artist's Life: Art Studio Workshops 7-8th

Students are actively participating in the project and asking numerous questions. This week, they are focusing on an introductory still life project using graphite on multimedia paper as their primary medium. Each still life includes a bust (a head and shoulder sculpture), drapery, and a variety of simple shapes. Additionally, they have been assigned a character portrait illustration as a side project, allowing for more creativity or to work on during spare time. Next week, the goal is for students to begin working with acrylic paint. They will focus on new sets of still lifes, and the teacher will provide a step-by-step demonstration on using acrylic medium and techniques for painting faces.

Color Me Clay! Creative Keepsakes Camp 4-6th

We learned fundamental clay techniques and best practices that we'll continue to use. We brainstormed, sculpted, and painted our initial project: a series of sculptures inspired by the 3 wise monkeys, along with some small freeform projects for practice. By the end of this week, we'll start working on a coil pot, which will be completed next week, emphasizing sturdy construction and detailed painting.

Check out what else we are offering this summer!
